Assistant Gardener, Swaledale, North Yorkshire. REF JB1818

Full Time Assistant Gardener required to work alongside the Head Gardener within a private estate located in a village location in Swaledale, North Yorkshire.

The established 3 acre gardens have the following areas:

• Formal lawns
• Hedges including cut box
• Herbaceous borders
• Woodland garden
• Greenhouse
• Pathways and driveways

• Lawn mowing, edging and maintenance
• General gardening-digging, weeding, mulching, watering, bed preparation and planting
• Maintenance of hedges including box topiary
• Use of large garden machinery, powered hand tools, such as mowers, strimmers, hedgecutters etc
• Maintaining garden equipment and machinery
• Awareness and practising of Health and Safety legislation
• Keeping tool shed clean and tidy and machinery etc stored securely at all times
• Winter snow and ice clearance around the lodge
• Undergo training as required

• An interest in horticulture, plants and gardens
• Competent and physically fit
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weathers
• Ability to use a wide range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools
• Abilty to work well as part of a team and individually under their own initiative and be able to prioritise work
• Be aware of the importance of health and Safety
• Hold a current full UK driving licence
• Good communication skills and a courteous personal manner
• Eagerness to learn and improve

Hours: 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch

Holidays: 20 days per year plus 8 statutory Bank Holidays

Very occasional weekend work for which time off in lieu will be given.
