A  wonderful opportunity has arisen for a kind, capable and experienced Private Housekeeper/Cook to join a warm and welcoming household near Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.

This is a live-in, part-time position offering a stable, long-term role with a delightful, active couple in their eighties who are looking for a trustworthy and cheerful person to help keep their beautiful home running smoothly.

Partner and small family very welcome, plus small, well behaved dog. The couple have had a live in housekeeper with them for the last 6 years and are now looking for a new, friendly and lovely housekeeper to step into her shoes. 

About the Role

Working 4 day week (Tuesday-Friday), 9:30am–1:30pm (flexible with occasional additional hours and odd weekends by agreement), you’ll take full responsibility for the daily care, cleaning, and smooth running of a much-loved private home.

Duties include:

  • All general housekeeping: vacuuming, dusting, polishing, and maintaining high standards throughout the property -5 bedroom, 4 bathrooms, 3 reception rooms, study (for the majority of the time only 1 Master bedroom ensuite in use upstairs). 
  • Laundry and ironing
  • Bed making and linen changes
  • Managing household supplies and provisions
  • Confident home-style cooking: preparing weekday lunches, light evening meals, and freezer meals ahead of time
  • Occasional help with family lunches or small gatherings
  • Overseeing the property when the couple are away
  • Occasional errands and light driving duties

This role would suit someone practical, cheerful, respectful and discreet — someone who enjoys maintaining a beautiful home with pride and care. The person will also need to be flexible and genuinely happy / willing to help where needed. 

The ideal person:

  • Experienced in private household work
  • Kind, caring and genuinely lovely to be around
  • Reliable, organised, and naturally tidy with a good eye for detail
  • A confident cook, able to prepare fresh, wholesome meals
  • Friendly and approachable but respectful of boundaries and privacy
  • DBS checked
  • Clean UK driving licence and own car (due to rural hamlet location)
  • Flexible and willing to help occasionally on weekends when needed

Accommodation

A lovely three-bedroom house with large private garden is provided within the grounds, with council tax paid.  Fully equipped kitchen and utility, plus carpets & curtains, however currently unfurnished.  Employers can furnish if required or employee can bring their own furniture.

This could suit a small family, as there is excellent local schooling including a highly regarded Grammar School. 

The role would be ideal for someone whose partner works independently elsewhere although occasional light driving errands (to the airport, to lunches etc) would be a real bonus although is not essential. 

Hours:

·       16-20 hours per week (Tuesday - Friday, 9:30am–1:30pm (although a degree of flexibilty re start and finish times by prior agreement)

  • Occasional extra hours paid or taken in lieu (during the day or weekend)
  • £16–£20 per hour, depending on experience
  • Start date: January 2026 (after the couple’s winter travels)
  • No regular evening work required
