Housekeeper / Mothers Help (27-30 hours)

A fun, loving and kind family based near Newmarket are looking for a warm, reliable and sunny-natured Housekeeper / Mothers Help to join their household and become a long-term part of their family life. This is their forever home, and they are hoping to find someone who will grow with them over the years and truly feel part of the family.

With two young children aged 6 and 4 (the youngest starting school in September), this is a lovely mixed role offering variety, flexibility and a genuinely warm working environment. The family are relaxed, friendly and appreciative, and are keen to find the right person rather than rigid hours.

The Role

This is a combined housekeeping and childcare position, with a focus on keeping the home running smoothly while supporting the children after school and nursery. School / nursery collection is a crucial element 3-4 times a week. 

This position could potentially be a job share with one person taking care of the housekeeping element for approximately 12 hours a week (flexible start and finish times) and the other, solely collecting the children from school /nursey and looking after them at home until Mum finishes work. The hours for this would be approximately 2.30pm -6.30/7pm, 3-4 afternoons a week (16- 18 hours a week). 

Key duties include:

• Keeping the house clean, organised and running well day-to-day
• Laundry, ironing, organising cupboards and children’s areas
• Simple, healthy batch cooking for the family
• Collecting the eldest child from school in the afternoons (3-4 per week)
• Occasional nursery pick-ups
• Helping with after-school routines, dinner, bath and bedtime on some days
• Being an extra, reliable pair of hands during busy working weeks

The children are happy, affectionate and well-mannered, and the family value kindness, consistency and warmth above all else.

Hours & Flexibility

The family currently need around 27- 30 hours per week, spread across 4 days, but are very open to discussing what works best for the right person and these hours can always increase if required. They are also happy to consider a shared role, splitting this between two people. 

• Ideally 2–3 longer days to allow for structured housework and organisation
• Typical hours currently around 10am–6.30 / 7pm, with flexibility

The mother works from home most of the time, and there is a calm, respectful working atmosphere. The successful person will be trusted with a key and treated as part of the household.

About the Family

This is a busy but happy home. One parent runs their own business and has a particularly demanding year ahead, while the other travels frequently for work. They are looking for someone dependable and proactive who understands family life and enjoys helping things tick along smoothly.

Unfortunately, this role is not suitable for bringing children or animals to work.
