Full-Time Experienced, Traditional Housekeeper – Large Country House

We are delighted to offer a rare and wonderful opportunity for an experienced, traditional Housekeeper to take over the care of a beautiful and substantial country house. The current housekeeper, who has been in the role for nine very happy years, is leaving to work closer to home and will be greatly missed.

The property is an elegant country residence with over seven bedrooms, featuring large rooms, high ceilings, solid floors, grand staircases, fine antiques, silver, and a collection of truly wonderful paintings. This role would suit someone who takes a real pride in their work and enjoys maintaining a house to the very highest standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall presentation and cleanliness of the house, managing day-to-day cleaning and working alongside two part-time assistant housekeepers. Duties will include meticulous cleaning throughout, laundry and ironing, specialist fabric care, and occasional wardrobe management for the Principal. A natural ability to anticipate what needs doing and when is essential, ensuring the house is always immaculate and beautifully presented for both family and guests.

Additional responsibilities include the care and correct display of silver and glassware, deep cleaning when required, and assistance with dinner parties and entertaining.

Cooking would be an advantage, to prepare soups, light meals and salads occasionally.

This is a physically demanding role due to the size and layout of the property, so physical fitness is a must. The new housekeeper will be polite, well-presented, personable, and professional at all times.

Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, with flexibility to work weekends when required (for example, when guests are staying or the Principals are entertaining).

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a similar high-standard private household
• Car driver with own transport (essential)
• Non-smoker
• Excellent, fully checkable references
• In-date DBS
• Ability to work as part of a small team while also using own initiative

A uniform will be provided, and the housekeeper will be required to have indoor and outdoor shoes to help maintain the pristine condition of the floors.
