Formal Housekeeper & Butler for Private Country Estate (with accommodation) - East Anglia- RR1970

An established and formal private household is seeking an experienced, discreet, and highly capable live-in Butler / Housekeeper couple to oversee the day-to-day running of their beautiful country estate. This is a long-term role requiring initiative, professionalism, and a genuine love for working in a large, formal home.

The estate is set in the heart of the countryside and hosts formal events and seasonal shoot days, requiring occasional support in hospitality, service, and presentation. The couple will be a key part of the estate team and should be comfortable working in a traditional and formal household environment.

Key Responsibilities

Butler:

• Front-of-house duties, including greeting guests and ensuring seamless, discreet service
• Formal table and drinks service during private dinners and shoot weekends
• Valeting duties: care of fine clothing, packing/unpacking, wardrobe management
• Wine cellar and pantry stock control
• Liaising with guests, chefs, estate staff, and external contractors
• Assisting with event planning and execution, particularly during shoot season
• Security awareness and oversight of the property in owners’ absence
• Driving duties as required (guests, station runs, errands)

Housekeeper:

• High-standard housekeeping, including cleaning of antiques, silver, and delicate materials
• Daily and deep cleaning routines for the main residence and guest areas
• Laundry and care of fine garments, linens, and furnishings
• Turn-down service, wardrobe care, and general household presentation
• Occasional light cooking or kitchen assistance (optional, not essential)
• Flower arranging, seasonal décor, and assisting with preparation for guests and events
• Managing household inventories and supplies

Ideal Couple:

• Proven experience in a similar formal, rural household environment
• Professional, adaptable, and able to work to high standards with minimal supervision
• A warm and discreet presence with strong communication skills
• Happy to support shoot days and be flexible with seasonal routines
• Confident drivers (at least one full UK driving licence essential)
• Comfortable working as part of a wider estate and household team
• Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK with excellent references
• Be willing to travel to various residences in and outside of the UK.
