POSITION AVAILABLE
Spring is very nearly upon us, and as a result, we are delighted to begin the search for an experienced, knowledgeable, practical and intuitive Grounds Person / Gardener to join a truly special private estate.
This is a full-time, long-term role on a beautiful, privately owned 20-acre family estate centred around a grand 17th-century country house. It is a gorgeous setting - woodland, formal garden areas, extensive lawns, tennis court, kitchen garden and residential properties within the wider estate. It really is rather special.
The position is primarily focused on the grounds of the main house, but there is a wider estate element too - so someone who enjoys variety and is happy to muck in will thrive here.
Hours:
The role will include:
Managing and maintaining formal lawns (4–5 lawns plus front of house)
• Woodland management, including small vermin control (no shotgun licence required)
• Tractor driving, trailer work and general estate machinery
• Chainsaw work (licence essential)
• Weeding and Spraying (PA1 and PA6 certificates required)
• Hedge trimming, strimming, leaf clearing and mulching
• Driveway maintenance and pot-holing
• Log splitting and keeping log baskets filled
• Fencing and general estate repairs
• Clearing drains or ditches on occasion
• Supporting the upkeep of additional residential properties on the estate
• Occasional driving may be required
There is already a gardener who attends weekly and a longstanding volunteer so this is very much part of a small and friendly team. At times you will work independently, and at others alongside others. Confidence and initiative are important.
They are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys gardening and grounds work - someone who notices when something needs attention, who takes pride in keeping everything neat, tidy and running smoothly. Someone who would enjoy making a difference. A practical, mechanically minded approach would be advantageous.
You must hold a clean driving licence (use of a vehicle is provided on site), be well referenced and have a steady, reliable work history.
This is a family home, and the right person will become part of the fabric of life there. It is a household with children, a much-loved dog and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. In an ideal world, they would love someone who is happy for the children to observe and learn about the land - someone comfortable being around family life.
Salary starts from £35,000+ depending on experience.
Accommodation may be available for the right person, subject to discussion.
This is a rare opportunity to secure a long-term, stable position in a truly beautiful setting in Norfolk, somewhere you can quietly build a career and take real pride in your surroundings.
