REPORTING TO Head Gardener / Gardens Supervisor

Overall job purpose
To maintain and improve the diverse portfolio of manicured and amenity landscapes within The Estate including formal gardens surrounding the hall, a six-acre walled garden which is open daily to visitors from March to October, hotel and holiday cottage gardens, cricket club greenkeeping, and garden maintenance of various other sites within the estate. You would be required to work 39 hours per week Monday – Friday with occasional weekend work on a rota basis.Job description.
The following is intended to provide guidance as to duties but it is not exhaustive. You will from time to time be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities as directed by management.
Specific duties will include: -
• To communicate regularly with the Head Gardener and Gardens Supervisor and to carry out all reasonable tasks.
• To ensure your work is carried out as part of the Gardens team and to complete assigned tasks to a high standard.
• To ensure all aspects of safe working practice and health and safety legislation is adhered to at all times.
• To maintain all grounds, gardens, and amenity landscapes across the estate. This active role will include the use of pedestrian and ride-on mowers, garden tractors with trailers and other attachments, hedge trimmers, strimmer, leaf blowers and various other machinery.
• Ideally candidates will posses PA1 & PA6 -pesticide application licenses or be prepared to complete this training and use a knapsack sprayer.
• To maintain and improve the Terraces and private gardens surrounding the hall.
• To maintain and improve the walled gardens and work alongside volunteers.
• To occasionally be involved in the maintenance and improvement of all other garden or landscape areas of the estate including Holkham Village, Longlands, Model Farm and The Victoria.
• To work occasional weekends throughout the year. This will be managed on a rota basis and split between the rest of the department.

You must have a passion for gardening with previous work experience as a gardener desired but not essential.
Flexibility, a positive attitude and an ability to work calmly under pressure.
You must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
Training
Training will be provided for all machinery and procedures.
