An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Private Chef / Family Cook to join a lovely private household in Suffolk, following the retirement of their much-valued chef of seven years.

Over time, he became a true part of the family, and his presence will be greatly missed. The principals are now looking for someone equally special to take on the role and carry it forward.

The Opportunity

Set within a stunning eleven-bedroom Suffolk estate, this role offers far more than a traditional chef position. You will become a trusted and valued presence at the heart of a welcoming, multi-generational family.

This is a household built on loyalty, kindness and long-standing relationships, reflected in the tenure of their current team.

The Role, Private Chef / Family Cook

The role offers a wonderful blend of wholesome, healthy day-to-day cooking alongside more elevated entertaining at certain times of the year.

You will be responsible for:

  • Preparing fresh, seasonal, high-quality meals for the principals on a daily basis, utilising produce from the estate’s walled vegetable garden
  • Creating nutritious, well-balanced British cuisine with a refined yet relaxed approach
  • Delivering beautifully presented dishes for family gatherings and weekend entertaining
  • Hosting elevated dinner parties, Sunday roasts and informal family meals
  • Catering for shooting lunches and formal guest dining throughout the year
  • Managing menu planning, kitchen organisation and provisions sourcing
  • Maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness, organisation and efficiency in the kitchen

This role requires a chef who can effortlessly transition between everyday family dining and sophisticated hospitality, with creativity, consistency and attention to detail.

Travel & Lifestyle

  • Twice yearly travel to the family’s Scottish estate, comprising one week in May and two weeks in August, catering for private stays, 8–10 guests, in an exceptional setting with an outstanding kitchen
  • Occasional support at the family’s London residence
  • Driving duties including collecting the principals from a local train station, approximately 30 minutes away, occasional airport collections, and transport for local dinner parties and engagements
  • A dynamic yet balanced lifestyle role within a private household environment

The Household

You will join a professional and friendly domestic team comprising one cleaner and two gardeners, working collaboratively within a well-run estate.

The family also have two much-loved terriers, so a genuine affection for dogs is essential. When the family are away, you will be responsible for their care, including walking, feeding and giving them plenty of attention.

Partners and well-behaved dogs are warmly considered within the accommodation offering.

Accommodation

A beautifully appointed, private two-bedroom suite within the estate, including:

  • One bathroom
  • Private garden
  • Garage
  • Fully self-contained, comfortable living space

Hours & Structure

  • Thursday to Monday working pattern, Tuesday and Wednesday off
  • Typically 8:00am start, with an afternoon break, returning for evening service
  • Overtime is not offered as time off in lieu, however this balances naturally as the family are frequently away on weekends, resulting in a lighter workload at times
  • A structured yet relaxed schedule reflective of private household rhythms

When the family are not entertaining, the workload is generally much lighter and allows for a more relaxed pace.

The Person

We are seeking an experienced and personable Private Chef / Household Cook who offers:

  • Proven experience within a private household, UHNW family or luxury environment
  • Exceptional skills in modern British, seasonal and family-style cuisine
  • Confidence in both intimate dining and larger-scale entertaining, 10–12 guests
  • A discreet, professional and approachable manner
  • A genuine appreciation for family-led environments and long-term roles
  • Strong organisational skills, flexibility and a proactive mindset
  • Full UK driving licence

Above all, this role requires someone who is warm, grounded, emotionally intelligent and genuinely invested in the household and the people they support.

It would suit someone seeking longevity, to become a trusted and valued member of the family team, and who enjoys the balance of informal cooking and more refined entertaining, with the opportunity to showcase creativity.

Salary & Start Date

  • £40,000–£45,000 per annum
  • Live-in accommodation included
  • Start date, August / September 2026
