Housekeeper/Cleaner

Part Time experienced Housekeeper/Cleaner required to take over from the current lady who is sadly leaving after 3 years. The Mill House is in the most wonderful location next to the river in Bures.  Easy access from Colchester and Sudbury.

This position is initially for 6 hours a week preferably over 2 days..  There could be additional hours for ad hoc tasks.

The Mill House is an old rambling house with open fires so prone to dust and cobwebs.  This position would be working with the owner as his wife is not able to supervise this position as she has a form of Alzheimer’s disease.  This position requires someone who has initiative and enterprise.

The position will involve:

·       General cleaning, hoovering, dusting and tidying of kitchen, scullery, bathrooms, bedrooms, conservatory, etc.  Dusting of pictures, mantelpieces and window sills.

·       Cleaning cookers, ovens (Aga) and tile floors.

·       Occasional cooking of simple family meals.

·       Making and changing beds including preparing guest rooms for family visits (6 bedrooms).

·       Sweeping and dusting a large conservatory including washing brick floor.

·       Regular tidying up of outside premises:  the laboratory (containing freezers), apple store and gardener’s W.C.  

·       Regular washing of bedding and general washing with some ironing.  

·       Loading and emptying dishwasher.

·       Emptying bins:  compost, recycling and general rubbish, etc.

·       Helping with spring cleaning of rooms and cupboards together with Nick in rotation including sorting out clothes and bedding for recycling.

·       Cleaning of internal windows on a monthly basis.

·       Occasional polishing of silver, brass and copper (e.g. copper kettles)

·       Sweeping path to back door.

·       Listing of cleaning requirements/products.

·       Regular cleaning of fridges and freezers.

• Kind, with a friendly, enthusiastic manner
• Energetic with an excellent work ethic
• Organised with a 'can do' attitude
• Experienced with cleaning large, older houses with the odd spider along the way!
• A good cook who could possibly batch cook from time to time
• Local to Bures, ideally within 30 minutes
• Car driver with own transport

Good hourly rate will be offered to the successful candidate who can provide fully checkable references.
