Stable Manager

The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding is a long-established Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) centre with nearly 40 years of experience delivering life-changing equestrian therapeutic activities. Operating as a volunteer-led charity, they currently care for eight horses that support both riding and non-riding therapeutic programmes for children and adults.

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic Yard Manager to lead the day-to-day management of the yard and horse welfare programme.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about horse care, enjoys working with people, and wants to play a key role in supporting our therapeutic services and the volunteers who make them possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily care, health and wellbeing of the horses.
  • Carry out and supervise routine stable management and yard duties.
  • Exercise and maintain the fitness and happiness of the horses.
  • Manage and support a team of volunteers involved in horse care and exercising.
  • Coordinate visits and appointments with vets, farriers, physiotherapists and other equine professionals.
  • Order and manage feed, bedding and other yard supplies.
  • Work alongside contractors to ensure effective pasture and field management.
  • Collaborate with the RDA-qualified coaches to ensure the smooth running of all sessions.
  • Maintain accurate horse health, welfare and treatment records.
  • Undertake associated administrative duties to support the efficient operation of the centre.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven experience in horse care and stable management.
  • Be personable and understanding, patient with the ability to assist, guide and train volunteers
  • Be polite and welcoming to all participants and visitors.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a welcoming, friendly manner.
  • Be confident leading and motivating volunteers.
  • Possess strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be committed to maintaining the highest standards of horse welfare.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team within a charitable and community-focused environment.
  • Have a flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Be a capable hands on working groom and be ready to assist at all times
  • Be a confident rider who can feel how the horses are working and adapt their routine as required.

What We Offer

  • Salary range £28,000 to £30,000 per annum. Depending on experience
  • 20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays.
