A beautiful private estate in Maldon, Essex is seeking an experienced, dedicated couple to take on a pivotal live-in role at the heart of a much-loved family property.

Set across circa 250 acres of countryside, this is a place of character and quiet distinction. Paddocks, woodland, and open land surround a handsome seven-bedroom principal house, which sits alongside one and a half acres of formal gardens, a swimming pool, and a stable yard awaiting its next chapter. It is, in every sense, a property that rewards those who take genuine pride in caring for something beautiful.

The successful couple will be offered a three-bedroom property on site, and with it, the opportunity to build a long and settled life somewhere truly lovely.

The Role

This is a fully hands-on, dual-role position, and the principals are looking for a couple who understand exactly what that means. Both partners will be expected to contribute meaningfully and consistently, working alongside a small team of long-standing part-time gardeners and household cleaners.

On the grounds side, the role calls for someone with a thorough knowledge of horticulture, ideally to RHS level or with equivalent estate experience. There are some exciting landscaping projects in the pipeline for this year, and the right candidate will relish the opportunity to be involved from the outset. Day-to-day grounds work will encompass formal garden maintenance, hedge cutting, tractor driving, mowing, topping, rolling, fertilising, and general estate upkeep including clearing gutters and maintaining the wider land. This is a role for someone who is genuinely green-fingered and at ease in a working countryside environment.

On the household side, the role encompasses all aspects of interior upkeep and readiness. The principals visit two to three times per week, and the house must be presented impeccably at all times. Responsibilities will include full cleaning and housekeeping, linen changes and turnovers, fridge stocking and preparation, room presentation, and the occasional valeting of vehicles. The couple will also act as the principal point of contact and coordination across all on-site staff, and will be trusted to manage projects, maintain high standards, and communicate proactively with the family.

What We Are Looking For

This role is open to couples only. Both applicants must have substantial, demonstrable experience working together in a similar capacity, with the references to match. The principals are looking for people who are organised, efficient, quietly confident in their work, and committed to the long term.

You will be comfortable around pets, happy in a semi-rural setting, and grounded enough to thrive in a role that is both varied and demanding. The property is quieter these days as the children have left home, so this is a calmer household, but one with a great deal going on behind the scenes.

What's on offer

Salary range is £80,000-100,000 per annum combined with accommodation depending on experience 

The role is forty hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours cannot be condensed given the scale and needs of the estate.
