Larstone Recruitment is delighted to be working on this wonderful opportunity for an experienced and warm-hearted family cook to join a well-established, welcoming household set in a truly beautiful corner of County Tipperary.

Approached by a fantastic avenue and surrounded by magnificent countryside, this substantial family home is the heart of a calm, well-run household. The principal couple have had the same loyal cook for the last eight years.

The Role

The family are looking for someone who cooks with genuine warmth and care, who takes quiet pleasure in feeding people well, and who understands that a beautifully made meal in a private home is about comfort as much as it is about skill.

The standard of cooking is high. The successful candidate will plan menus thoughtfully, source fresh, quality ingredients, drawing on the family’s own kitchen garden where possible and manage provisions and stock with care and organisation. The kitchen will be kept immaculately, and food safety and hygiene will be paramount.

The principals have a deep appreciation for traditional Irish and British cooking- hearty, nourishing meals, beautiful salads, indulgent desserts, and wonderful brunches. Classics such as eggs Benedict are very much at home here. Healthy options are welcomed too, but the heart of the cooking is honest, flavourful, and thoroughly traditional. Spiced or highly seasoned food is not to the family’s taste.

Meals are typically prepared for two people, with grown-up children no longer living at home. The household is relaxed about mealtimes- some evenings, dinner will simply be prepped and left for the principals to enjoy at their leisure. The role is not demanding in terms of volume, but it does require real care, creativity, and a genuine love of food and someone who is kind and lovely to be around.

Entertaining is small and intimate- the family occasionally host a handful of guests (usually 10) . They also spend time at their second home on the south coast of Ireland, where the cook would be expected to assist with 3 summer barbecues - relaxed, generous affairs with beautiful cuts of meat and wonderful salads.

The family travel frequently, so there will be periods when the household is quieter and freezer preparation, bread-making, and forward planning come into their own.

Daily Life

One of the most cherished rituals of this household is the open fire. Each day, the cook will clean out and re-lay the fire -a task the family hold dear and which sets the tone for the warmth and comfort of the home.

The household is also home to 3 lovely dogs and their care will form a natural and lovely part of daily life. Walking, feeding, and simply adoring them is very much part of the role. A genuine love of dogs is essential.

There is light housekeeping involvement, though a full-time house manager and housekeeper also live on the property, ensuring the cook works as part of a small, settled, and harmonious team.

A car is provided, and the successful candidate must hold a full, clean driving licence. Errands, shopping, and sourcing of provisions form a natural part of daily life, with excellent local supermarkets and food shops close by.

Hours

• The working day is typically 10am - 6pm, with two days off per week, which may vary. 
• On occasion, the evening may extend a little later, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Accommodation

• The cook will be housed in the most beautiful gate lodge, a charming two-bedroom property set within the grounds. This is a wonderful home in its own right, and a real privilege of the position.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a genuine background in cooking, whether through formal culinary training or extensive experience in a private household. You will be organised, calm under pressure, and utterly reliable, with strong communication skills and the kind of quiet professionalism that makes a household run beautifully.

Above all, you will be a warm, kind, and caring individual who takes pride in their cooking and in the home they look after. This role would naturally suit a woman, and the family are also open to considering a couple, should one partner bring relevant maintenance or handyman skills, though a single candidate is the preference.

You will be someone who loves dogs, respects the rhythms and traditions of a private household, and takes real pleasure in the small and meaningful details -a perfectly laid fire, a beautiful pudding, a loaf of bread cooling on the counter.

Salary

• Approximately £40,000 per annum to reflect the experience and calibre of the successful candidate. Private accommodation is provided.
