We are looking for a warm, welcoming, and experienced Café Manager to join a retreat centre in Norfolk.

This is a hands-on, guest-facing role at the heart of a busy café / deli operation, grounded in a farm-to-fork ethos and a commitment to creating a healthy, nourishing environment for families and guests alike. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the café, ensuring every guest is greeted with genuine warmth and leaves with a wonderful impression. From the morning coffee rush to afternoon events, you will be the constant, friendly presence that sets the tone for the entire space.

The Role

Working 40 hours per week, you will oversee all aspects of café operations, including managing the guests’ welcome and farewell and supporting the wider events programme when required. Weekends and busy periods are a natural part of this role, and we are looking for someone who embraces the energy, rhythm, and community feel that comes with them.

Salary

£28,000–30,000 per annum

Day to day, your responsibilities could include:

  • Welcoming and looking after all guests to the highest standard
  • Welcoming guests on arrival and being there for their farewell, and handling general guest enquiries as they arise
  • Ensuring a consistently excellent and thoughtful guest experience
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of events held within the café space
  • Managing stock, supplies, and day-to-day café administration
  • Leading by example and maintaining the warm, professional atmosphere the venue is known for
  • Deli management – overseeing the deli counter, product selection, presentation, stock rotation, wastage and daily preparation, while working closely with chefs in an open kitchen on seasonal menu planning
  • Reservation and diary management – looking ahead at upcoming bookings, events and guest numbers to plan staffing, preparation, and stock, as well as managing guest requests for arrivals on the wider site
  • Grower/growing team liaison – working closely with the growing team to understand seasonal availability, communicate upcoming needs, and confidently share the farm-to-fork story with guests and staff
  • Food safety – day-to-day responsibility for food safety compliance within the café and deli, including temperature checks, labelling, allergen management and supporting the food safety management system
  • Stock and supplier management – ordering, receiving deliveries, stock control and minimising waste
  • Team leadership – recruiting, training and scheduling café staff, while nurturing a positive and motivated team culture
  • Allergen awareness
  • In addition, you will bring and apply:
  • Strong financial awareness, including basic budgeting, cost control, and margin sensitivity
  • Confidence using booking systems, POS systems, and digital tools for operations and reporting
  • An eye for detail in presentation, cleanliness, and visual merchandising
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Initiative in problem-solving and improving systems or guest experience
  • Emotional intelligence and sensitivity when dealing with both guests and team members
  • A natural ability to communicate a values-led offering, particularly around seasonal, local, and nutritious food
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of café events
  • Helping build a sense of community and connection within the space

About You

You will be somebody who genuinely loves hospitality, takes pride in looking after people, and thrives in a busy, varied environment. Previous experience in a café, restaurant, or hospitality management role is essential, as is a natural ability to put guests at ease from the moment they arrive.

You will be organised, reliable, and comfortable taking ownership of a space, a team, and a guest experience all at once. You will also have a genuine appreciation for fresh, seasonal produce, and the role food and environment play in supporting wellbeing and connection, and you will take pride in conveying this through both service and atmosphere.
