A lovely family on the outskirts of Holt, set between Holt and Sheringham, are seeking a dependable and animal-loving house sitter for term time only to take care of their beautiful second home, starting in September.

This is a great opportunity to live in a rather special part of North Norfolk, in a large and beautifully kept house with plenty of space around it. The family are looking for someone reliable, tidy, and genuinely fond of animals to help care for their home and their much-loved menagerie while they are away during term time, working 4 -5 days a week.

The role includes (AM & PM responsibilities which could fit nicely before and after work):

  • Caring for two small horses, one of whom is elderly, including feeding, mucking out, poo picking (once a week), rugging and fly sheet changes as needed, and knowing when a vet should be called
  • Looking after chickens, letting them out in the morning and shutting them away safely at night, collecting eggs, and feeding once a day
  • Caring for rabbits, including feeding (once a day_, fresh water, and making sure they are secure
  • Feeding the outdoor cats (once a day)
  • General oversight of the house and grounds, providing a reassuring presence and a degree of security while the family are not there
  • Pool chemical maintenance (if confident doing so)

Optional, and can be contracted out if preferred:

  • A few hours of weeding and general gardening (gardeners are already in situ, so this would be light, additional help)
  • Housework
  • Airbnb changeovers

This position is live in during term time, with the successful candidate living out during school holidays. It would suit someone looking for a long term, settled arrangement rather than a short term placement.

What we are looking for:

  • A genuine understanding of horses, including day to day handling and care
  • Comfortable and confident around chickens, rabbits, and cats
  • A full, clean driving licence and access to a car, as the property is rural
  • Glowing references
  • Up to date DBS check, or willing to undergo one
  • Someone tidy, trustworthy, and easy to have around
  • Someone able to commit to a long term, term time only arrangement

Hours can flex around the family’s needs, but the animals will need attention every morning and night 4-5  times a week.

If this sounds like the role for you, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with Rebecca at [email protected] for more information.
